ECF XXIX New Years' Clash Results

Empire Championship Fighting - XXIX New Years' Clash

December 27, 2008

Palms Casino Resort

The first ECF to be held after the departure of Valentine Productions was headlined by two great title matches and one lightweight superfight.

-In the main event, ECF Middleweight champion "The Bossman" Jamie Amos defended his title against Kendall "Special K" Carol. Perhaps the ECF's most successful champion, Amos secured the win in the third round when Carol dislocated his elbow and was unable to continue the match. "The Bossman" improves his ECF record to 10-1. Currently, there is no #1 contender to Amos' crown, but there are new middleweights on the rise here in the ECF that will in time, rise to challenge "The Bossman".

-The second title match of the night saw Toshiro "Raiden" Montero defend his ECF Light-Heavyweight championship against the winner of the 2008 Makesport Light-Heavyweight GP and CFC champion, David "Danger" Crest. This was the first meeting between these two mega-athletes and Montero got the KO in the thrid round following a punch-kick combination. Toshiro Montero has decided to move up in weight to challenge for the vacant ECF Heavyweight championship to become a double-champion. More information on who he will face will be released soon. Montero is now 10-4-2 in the ECF.

-The lightweight superfight/rematch between Dark Oz and Cesar Montanez saw the same outcome as before...Oz took the win by decision. These two men fought previously in the KFC Lightweight GP almost one year ago before each going on to win lightweight championships in other orgs. After winning this match, Dark Oz improved his ECF record to 4-2. A win over Cesar definitely puts Dark Oz in the title picture.

FURY: Final Conflict 2008 Results

FURY XC ended the 2008 year with bang at Final Conflict. This card saw the first FURY XC Heavyweight champion crowned and four other exciting title matches.

Main Event - FURY XC Heavyweight Championship Match

The 2008 Heavyweight Grand Prix came to a conclusion when the "underdog" Igor Veselov upset favorite Julio-Cesar Montanez in the first round. From the sounding of the bell, Veselov came out like a man possessed and immediately took the role of aggressor (very reminiscent of the Fedor/Cro Cop Match in PRIDE). Montanez spent the first two minutes of the match just backing up and throwing some leg kicks that obviously failed to stop "The Russian Assassin". At the five minute mark, Veselov connected with a hook and followed up by taking Julio-Cesar to the ground. From there, he spent some time in his guard before getting the full mount position and beginning a barrage of punches to Montanez's face. After witnessing the punishment his brother was taking, Cesar Montanez (who was in the corner) decided to throw in the towel and possibly save the career of his older brother. With this win, Igor Veselov has cemented his status among the elite here on MakeSport.

FURY XC Lightweight Championship Match

The war of words began in November of 2008 when "Lil Evil" Wally Darkmon found out he was considered the underdog going into his match with MakeSport legend "The Japanese Warrior" Hidetoshi Yanagisawa. Yanagisawa was coming off a very dominant performance against "El Conquistador" Cesar Montanez, the man he defeated to become the first FURY XC Lightweight champion. Darkmon entered the match after losing his WEC Lightweight championship. Never short of words, Darkmon stated he simply was the best and that Yanagisawa would retire after the beating he would deal to him...he couldn't have been more wrong. Yanagisawa outstruck him for three straight rounds, connecting with several big shots that rocked the Canadian, leaving many to wonder why Darkmon even showed up in the first place. Yanagisawa continues his reign over the lightweight division with another dominating performance.

FURY XC Middleweight Championship Match

The first champion ever crowned in FURY XC, "The Brazilian Snake" Wanderlei Gracie, did not disappoint his fans by turning back the challenge of rising middleweight star, Scott Adams. Gracie, who is undefeated in FURY (with one draw against Cesar Montanez), fought a back and forth match up with his younger opponent. Adams entered the contest with a 20-4 record with the majority of his wins coming by knockout. In the end, it was Gracie that showed the judges that he deserved this win by putting on another stellar performance he has come to be known for. His FURY record now moves to 4-0-1 and is looking forward to his next title defense in January.

FURY XC Welterweight Championship Match

A true veteran of this sport, Leon "Del Boy" Del Gaudio won the FURY XC Welterweight championship in another match that went the distance from MFS fighter, Antonio Porras Jr. Porras, who defeated Vince Stone in November for the belt, was greatly favored in this match but showed his lack of takedown defense as Del Gaudio just took him down when, and where he pleased. A veteran of over 100 fights, Del Gaudio proved he can still hang with the best young, up and comers. Just recently, Porras contacted the FURY admin and demanded a rematch with Del Gaudio, so only time will tell what comes next for the new champion and his title.

FURY XC Featherweight Championship Match

One of FURY XC's main goals was to bring some new life into MakeSport. Final Conflict saw the crowning of the first Featherweight champion on MakeSport. MFS fighter, Adrian Perez earned the right to challenge Ryuunosuke "Kid" Nakajima to become the first featherweight champion by winning his first three fights in this small, but exciting division. "Kid" Nakajima, after meeting with success in the lightweight division, was asked to go down in weight to help give this title match some more credibility. After two intense rounds, the end came when Perez broke the ribs of Nakajima and he was unable to finish the third round. Perez was ahead on the scorecards when this happened, so either way, he was going to win the title. While Nakajima has asked for a rematch down the line, after the disappointing performance he put on, he will be lucky to be back at all. A search now begins for Perez's next opponent.

Undercard

Leon "Rocky"
2008 KFC Annual Awards

Just finished compiling the list for the 2008 award winners.

Fighter of the Year: Arutha "The Predator" Darkmoor

Hall of Fame Induction: Arutha "The Predator" Darkmoor

Without a question, the fighter of 2008 that sticks out in my mind is Arutha "The Predator" Darkmoor. From the time he returned in mid-2008 from hiatus to the very end of the year, Darkmoor had the toughest and busiest resumé of any other light heavyweight in the organization. Undoubtedly, he was not satisfied with his performances against "The Viking" Vladimir Garkushenko, David "Danger" Crest, and William "The Reaper" Finnsson, but as a scholar once said, "You can't win them all." And yet, Darkmoor came pretty damn close.

Submission of the Year: Pete "Zig-Zag" Zimmerman

I will admit, when I first assumed role of KFC administrator, I wasn't very familiar with other organizations. When Pete "Zig-Zag" Zimmerman first crossed my eyes, I really didn't think twice about it. But when I looked his resumé and saw first-hand the talent of this guy, I was a believer. In his debut, he served notice with a flying triangle choke submission over Jon "Malice" Owen that, I believe, is the KFC's greatest submission of the year.

Knockout of the Year: Vinny "Italian Stallion" De Filippo

I fondly remember when Julio-Cesar Montanez rose to the KFC throne. He was undefeated in the organization and was working his way up the top ten rankings--from my perspective, all was well in the heavyweight division. In the KFC, the first chinks in Montanez's armor were exposed by Vinniy "Italian Stallion" De Filippo. But, at KFC 38, De Filippo-Montanez met for a second time. This time, De Filippo landed a crisp knee on Montanez, ending the night early and crowning a new champion.

Fight of the Year: Hugo "The Bezerker" Hickling vs. Clyde "The Reaper" Renato

By May 2008, light heavyweight champion Renato had deeply solidified his spot in the division by winning the KFC Light Heavyweight Grand Prix and defeating contender Adam "Mayhem" McEndree at KFC 40. At the time Hickling emerged as a contender, not many people were giving him a chance to upset the champion. But in dramatic fashion, Hickling submitted ground specialist Renato with a side choke, signaling the rise of a new juggernaut in the division.

2008 Breakthrough Award: "The Viking" Vladimir Garkushenko

Going into his title fight against dominant champion Arutha "The Predator" Darkmoor, not many were giving up-and-coming Garkushenko a chance against his heavily favored opponent. But with a first-round technical knockout, Garkushenko quickly established his name in the division and KFC record books, becoming the KFC champion and pegged recipient of the 2008 KFC Breakthrough Award in the same night.

2008 KFC Commitment Award: "Ruthless" Chris Fratino

A KFC veteran and member since the inaugural KFC, Fratino has displayed a level of commitment to MakeSport and KFC not often seen. Braving administration changes, he has stuck with the organization through both good and hard times. Being one of the originals, Fratino is awarded the Commitment Award.
