This was an important matchup for both fighters. Both looking to move up in the ranks, this would prove an important stepping stone in both careers. Mike "Black Hole" Hunt looks the best shape he has been in a while. He looks like he came prepared to go the distance in this one. Aleks, known as a hard trainer, also looked prepared. On 2008-09-07 05:09:00 a sold out venue at SFF 49 - Penultimate saw a great matchup between Mike "Black Hole" Hunt and Drago.

During the prefight introductions, "Black Hole" paced the ring energetically, seemingly unable to wait for the fight to start. "The End" stood calmly, staring with death in his eyes. You know, I don't think we're going to see a quick fight here. I really don't. Both of these guys have trained for a long fight and know that exhausting themselves in the first round is going to make it harder for them as the fight progresses. You could feel the tremendous respect these two fighters have for each other, as they touched gloves prior to the start of the fight. But as the retired to their respective corners, you couldnt help but realize that that wouldnt stop them from attempting to hurt the other as soon as that bell rung.

Aleks exploded in at the start of round 1 in crowd-pleasing fashion, connecting with a couple of kick to the faces. Aleks shoots and gets Mike down. Mike gets back to his knees and Aleks is still trying for the takedown. Mike gets back up to the feet and they are clinched back against the fence. Both fighters exchange kicks and punches. Clinch at the fence, they separate and circle in the middle. Aleks presses but Mike "Black Hole" Hunt lands a punch. Mike "Black Hole" Hunt keeps looking for the big haymaker KO but Aleks either slips them or eats them and comes right back. Aleks is working hard kicks to Hunt's body. The urgency in the action picked up as both fighters could feel the time ticking down on the round. Both fighters threw caution out the window as the traded blows in the center of the ring until the bell sounded ending the round.

Round 2 starts with a Mike takedown. He works from this position until the referee stands them up. Mike flies in with a heavy spinning back kick to the ribs and works the clinch against the cage. Mike catches Aleks with a kick in the course of a wild exchange. Mike takes his back after Aleks fails to score a desperation takedown and locks on a achilles hold. Hunt controlled the action and punished his opponent especially against the cage. The round ended in an incredible give-and-take of punishment from both fighters. Hunt in control began chucking heavy haymakers that connected with a sickening thud to his opponent's skull. Drago to his credit kept his composure, and his conciousness throughout, and was able to sweep out of it land mounted on his opponent. He wasted no time in throwing his own punishment before the bell sounded ending the round.

Look at this, Hunt is coming out aggressive! He wants to end this fight as quickly as possible. He knows that, as the fight goes longer, there will be more opportunities for "The End" to catch him in a submission or knock him out. Mike lands a low kick to and then follows up with a punches and kick that buckles Aleks to the mat. Another nice one two from "Black Hole". Hunt looking for a Kimura. Aleks's arm is being bent back horribly. Aleks escapes. Hunt follows up with three punches to a stunned "The End" and the fight ends by dislocated elbow as Hunt takes the victory at 00:40 of round 3 by TKO.

"Hunt was reported to be a little nervous going into the fight — due to some training injuried. But he made his gameplan work, and was able to take it to Drago. It was a great job on his part.” the commentators reported afterwards. "Black Hole" in his post-fight interview made sure to thank Drago for taking the fight, and made his intentions known that he is looking to fight one of the top guys sometime in the future, Greg "Killer" Kotucz or Greg "Killer" Kotucz. Drago was very gracious in defeat in his post-fight interview. In the post fight interview Mike showed class and good sportsmanship by presenting his trophy to Aleks saying that there was no winner and no loser in the fight and there needs to be a rematch. Aleks praised Mike and agreed to the rematch.
