Will came out to jeering from the crowd. He is the one everyone loves to hate. But to his credit, Will doesn't let it faze him, but rather basks in the spotlight. Brimming with confidence, Yeung seemed eager to give the crowd what they wanted, namely the beating of Will. There were alot of questions coming into this one. Namely how would Collins's Submission Fighting / Muay Thai matchup against Bolo's Submission Fighting / Muay Thai. It is said that styles make matches, and this one certainly seemed like a good fit. Here we saw open weights Collins and lonestar representative Yeung facing off.
Collins is grinning and Bolo "Du Mac" Yeung is serious. Man, I can't believe the great crowd ovation for Collins. The fighters touched gloves in respect even before the bell sounded. This was going to be a great tilt between two top fighters, who would be looking to take the other out in devastating fashion. But let there be no doubt, there was a huge amount of respect between both fighters, whether they woudl readily admit it or not. "Bone Crusher" walks out first to ACDC's "Thunderstruck". The crowd is deafening! No BS, this is one of those Rocky moments where even the ref is smiling and patting "Bone Crusher".
Both fighters touch gloves to start the round and Will quickly lands a right hand. "Du Mac" shoots in and clinches with Will. From here it was a back-and-forth whirlwind of kick after kick traded between the two combatants. Blood, sweat and tears showered the audience that only made them cheer ever louder. After a Will high kick opened a cut over Bolo "Du Mac" Yeung's eye, time was stopped for a doctor check, but Bolo "Du Mac" Yeung was cleared to continue. Now somewhat more desperate to score points, Bolo "Du Mac" Yeung repeatedly invited Will in to mix it up, and he obliged to effect. Collins showing great takedown defense in the opening stanza. It appears early that Bolo is not going to be able to take this match to the floor. Bolo is telegraphing his shot and Collins seems satisfied with just stopping the takedown, as he has not let his hands fly at all. Collins pulls guard with about 20 seconds to go. Bolo lands some good shots within Collins's guard to end the stanza.
After an extended feeling out process, Shaolin Martial Arts veteran partially landed a right leg head kick that was countered by an attempted takedown. Collins quickly slapped on a front choke that would cost him a lot of energy, but would not finish the match. Collins lands a takedown. Bolo stands up and lands a left headkick that stuns Collins. "Bone Crusher" misses with a huge looping hook. Bolo lands a elbow strikes. They are up and clinching, "Bone Crusher" jumps to Standing guard and is slammed, Yeung starts pounding. "Bone Crusher" lands a couple of good elbows before the end of the round.
"Bone Crusher" lands two shots to start off the round. Both guys content to stand for a bit. "Bone Crusher" goes for a shoot, "Du Mac" sprawls it out. Yeung rushes "Bone Crusher" against the fence and ties him up. Nice knees from the clinch by Yeung. Bolo went in early for the takedown but ended up on his back after Will sprawled effectively. "Bone Crusher" unloads with punches and Yeung holds on; with ten seconds left Yeung battles back to his feet before the round ends. The judges come to a decision, awarding the fighters with a draw.
The pro-Bolo crowd boos as the announcer trys to interview Will after the fight but he gets off one quote before he is drowned out. What a great fight for Collins. He is certainly making a name for himself in Elite Xtreme Combat. We very well might be looking at the next legend of the sport. This is a tough loss for Bolo. He had been training so hard for this fight, but I'm sure we'll see him back in Elite Xtreme Combat. The best thing he can do for now is learn from this loss and come back stronger.
